Very Rare Advertising Map Plate for "au Paradis des Touristes" on Isle of Jersey - $40 - (Damariscotta, ME)
This is a very rare advertising or souvenir plate from au Paradis des Touristes, a famous store located at 63 King Street on the Isle of Jersey in the English Chanel. The store was a major tourist spot at the turn of the last century (1900). We had never seen one of these plates before, but a search of the Internet revealed that a prominent London map dealer once had one for sale at 520 which at the time translated to a bit more than $860. We had two examples, one of which was sold earlier on eBay. This is the other plate, and these photographs on this listing represent the actual plate being offered. We are also showing in the accompaning illustrations a print advertisement for the store. It must have been a very important tourist site because a period book of photographs of the area has a picture of it on the cover. The plate is 8 inches in diameter and is in very good condition. We realize there may be interest in this item in the United Kingdom so we have listed the international postage which unfortunately has risen sharpy in the past year.
