For sale: Antique Rare Venetian Skunk/Raised Dot African Tribal Trade Bead Necklace Strand. 53 beads total strung on straw raffia. Beads are in good to excellent condition with a glossy and worn patina and some show signs of light use wear that may include scratches, pitting, scuffing and small chips. These beads have a unique style among skunk/raised dot beads in that they have a not random design on most with a circle of dots and a larger dot in the center often with inlaid color. African Trade beads are decorative beads that were used as currency between the end of the 15th century thru the 20th century in exchange for goods such as palm oil, ivory, spices, gold and slaves. The majority of these beads were created in places like Venice, Bohemia, and Holland. They were valued by Africans as a sign of wealth, social status, currency and adornment.
