EDWARD FARMER STERLING & JADE SCHOLAR'S BOX c1920 SIGNED A very fine c1920 Edward Farmer sterling silver scholar's box and Chinese jade panel. Farmer was a new York City decorator and designer who imported antique Chinese materials, usually jade, and incorporated these into stunning decorative accessories, including boxes, ink stands and match safes. Examples have sold for over $150,000 USD (Christies, London, May 17, 2013) though more often in the $5,000. to $10,000 USD range. Rectangular form with twin antique Chinese jade panels set in sterling leaf mounts. Hand engraved leaf and vine borders and Shou medallion. Interior cover with hinged panel securing the jade. Sides and base with original wood liners. Never monogrammed. This one hundred year old Edward farmer sterling box with antique Chinese jade panel is 4 3/8 inches and weighs a bit under 15 standard ounces, including the jade and interior wood. In fine condition. Rich sterling patina, retains original detail. The antique Chinese jade panels appear in fine state. Interior wood. Mild scuffs under base near corners. Sells world wide.
