2013 - Casket - Tour de France 100e edition - 4x10 euros Monnaie de Paris/Paris Mint Monnaie de Paris celebrates one of the largest sporting competition in the world with the 100th edition of the Tour de France in 2013. Broadcasted on more than 100 TV channels in more than 190 countries, this legendary race is contested by 22 teams of 9 riders who cover some 3 000 kilometres within three weeks. The 2013 race will start in Corsica, the only region of Metropolitan France that it has never yet visited. Monnaie de Paris celebrates this 100th edition with 8 exceptional coins: 4 gold coins of different face value honor the event itself and 4 silver ¤10 coins are devoted to the famous Tour de France jerseys. Each of these 4 coins has a different colour: the yellow jersey - leader of the general classification; the red spotted jersey, leading climber; the green jersey, leader on points; and the white jersey, best young cyclist on the Tour. The obverse of the gold coins which celebrate the 100th edition of the Tour depicts two competitors in the saddle. On the left hand side is the winner of the 1903 edition whilst the other symbolises a contemporary racing cyclist. The two figures share a common wheel, suggesting the link between the two eras. In the background, on the left hand side, is a gear plate with the French hexagon at its centre. On the obverse of the 4 silver coins, a stylised cyclist is shown wearing his coloured jersey. On each coin the rider is in a situation that represents the category of his jersey. The reverse is common to each coin in this series and features the Tour de France logo with the inscription "100e édition". Corsica and the Arc de Triomphe represent the starting line and the finish line o f the 2013 race.
