Pair of Early 19th c Georg Stephan Dörffer Sterling Silver Candlesticks with Dol - $3,950 - (Milford, NH)

A rare pair of German sterling silver candlesticks on round base plates, three dolphins supporting the central funnel shaped stem on each, with three applied lancet leaves and three mascarons around the top of each. Hallmark for Georg Stephan Dörffer (active in Würzburg from 1790-1824) appears on the base of each. Dörffer is from a wealthy Würzburg silversmith family, considered to be one of the most important Lower Franconian silversmiths of the time. The candlesticks are in very good overall condition, with minor restorations, surface imperfections, minor dimples, and light expected wear from age and use. One candlestick is slightly taller than the other. Dimensions: 10 / 10.25 in h x 2.38 in diameter lip x 4.5 in diameter base. An extraordinary find!Item ID: 6096
