It depicts a rare view of the lifeboat arriving to save shipwreck survivors. It is a rare look at the Lifeboat Lifesaving service and early coast guard. The United States Life-Saving Service was a United States government agency that grew out of private and local humanitarian efforts to save the lives of shipwrecked mariners and passengers. It began in 1848 and ultimately merged with the Revenue Cutter Service to form the United States Coast Guard in 1915. The print is is on quality paper with delicate tones and hues. It is a chromolith from a high quality children's book published in the late 1880s or 1890s. It is a double page spread, so it is double-size but there is a fold in middle. There is a text on the back, but it does not show through the thick paper. The page has smudges in the margins. The page is approx. 13.75 x 8.5 inches (34.5 x 21.5cm) and the actual image size (without margins) is approx. 13 x 6.8 inches. The colors are much nicer and brighter than the scan.
