Ptolemaic Kingdom Silver Tetradrachm Cleopatra III/Ptolemy IX 116-107 BC AU NGC - $702 - (Laurel, MD)

Ptolemaic Kingdom Silver Tetradrachm Cleopatra III/Ptolemy IX 116-107 BC AU NGC The Ptolemaic Kingdom arose out of the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC. It was the southern third of the Macedonian Kingdom, encompassing what is now Egypt, southern Syria and Cyprus. It continued to be a Hellenistic (Greek based) kingdom, but integrating Egyptian culture and traditions. It fell under Roman control in 30 BC. This tetradrachm was issued under Ptolemy IX and his mother, Cleopatra III, during the 4th year of reign (114/3 BC). This a classically Ptolemaic coin, with a head right on the obverse and eagle with Greek inscriptions on the reverse. Nice high grade for this type.
