Lyons 2 gallon antique stoneware jug with handle Lyons NY (Rochester, NY) - $275 - (Wellsville, NY)
Please note: I ship to USA only. This item is available for free local pickup as well (Wellsville, NY - please contact me prior to purchasing). This item was obtained at an upstate NY antiques auction. As can be seen in one of the photos, it is a Lyons (NY) 2 gallon stoneware jug with a handle. It is in very nice condition except for a chip in the wall about half way up, a small chip in the bottom edge, and two either rub areas or possible flaws on the wall. The base has some minor chipping as well. General condition is very good. Please see the photos. An excellent article by John O’Brien on the stoneware of Western NY: www.goodolddayscountryshop.com/Newletters/Stoneware%20from%20Western%20NY.pdf provides some history of the Lyons pottery but I could not determine the age of this item based on that article. According to O’Brien molded clay vessels made in Ohio put the handmade stoneware potters of NY out of business around the turn of the century. Therefore this item likely dates to the turn of the century or before. Note that this is purely my amateur interpretation (fellow Ebayers have kindly corrected me in the past when I have been wrong on some occasions). Dimensions: 14” tall, top inside diameter: 1-1/2”, top rim outside diameter about 2-1/8”, bottom diameter: 7-7/8” Please ask any questions you might have prior to bidding. Thank you.
