With the decline of working animals for farms and transportation purposes, the items that he accepted for repair likely expanded to other things, such as farm equipment, trucks, autos and all things mechanical (had three sons who were listed as mechanics.)College City was the location of "Pierce Christian College" on land willed to the college by Andrew Pierce in 1876. In 1896 the facilities were taken over by the local high school so now there is no college in College City.
