Original Revolutionary Newspaper-1773-Boston Tea Party-Pennsylvania Gazette - $850 - (Scottsdale, AZ)

This is a superb original edition of the Pennsylvania Gazette dated December 1, 1773. This four-page Revolutionary period newspaper is in beautiful condition and has numerous and fascinating articles of the day. One article of note dateline Boston, mentions the unrest just two weeks prior to historical Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773. “A number of persons assembled in School Street, they broke the windows and did other considerable damage by throwing large stones into the house occupied by Richard Clarke Esq. who is one of the agents of The East India (tea) Company.” “The Selectmen have notified a meeting of the inhabitants of this town to be this day at 10 o’clock, upon the expected importation of the Tea.” Other articles and advertisements give a flavor of the brewing Revolutionary War and the growing anger of taxation without representation. There are only two small binding holes on pages 3-4 and the notable articles are complete. Seldom do articles surrounding pre-revolutionary unrest appear on the market and this would enhance any collection. Newspapers of this period were predominantly printed on paper made from rags as opposed to wood pulp and therefore are structurally sound. This is an estate item and therefore no returns or international buyers. Buyer pays a fixed fee for shipping and insurance.
