Bryan Stevenson - Free Public Lecture - N.A. - (Asheville, NC)

Bryan Stevenson, the attorney, activist and author who led the team that created the national memorial to victims of lynching, speaks at UNC Asheville’s Kimmel Arena at seven p.m. Doors open at six p.m. Free, with no tickets required. Stevenson is the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI). Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill and aiding children prosecuted as adults. Stevenson recently won a historic ruling in the U.S. Supreme Court banning mandatory life-without-parole sentences for all children seventeen or younger. He also is the author of award-winning New York Times best-selling book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption.
