Chinese Export Silver Fish Slice c1850 KHC - RARE FORM - - $1,250 - (Supply, NC)
CHINESE EXPORT SILVER FISH SLICE c1850 KHECHEONG, CANTON - RARE - A fine and very rare mid 19th century Chinese export silver fish slice. From Khecheong, listed in Canton 2nd and third quarters of the 19th century. Not a single CES fish slice appears in Chan's collection (2005). Kernan illustrates a nearly identical KHC example in Chait's collection, page 87, though it is smaller than the one offered today, which has been in our collection since the late 1970s. Classic fiddle back handle, never monogrammed. Shaped blade with pierced grape and leaf framing the hand engraved fish. Collectors take note at the engraver's effort to show a rare three dimensional view of the fish, with the additional left eye and upper fish detail. Never monogrammed. In very fine condition. Rich silver patina, retains original detail. The Chinese export silver fish slice is 12 1/2 inches, which is unusually long for this form and weighs 7 standard ounces. Hallmarked as shown.
