Mintons, Ltd. (China Works) - Circa 1885 "Pink Flowers & Green Leaves" -- Antique * Victorian * Floral Design * Majolica * Hearth Thickness -- This listing is for TEN (10) floral design, hearth tiles, made at Minton's "China Works" factory. Any majolica tiles from any of the Minton companies is automatically uncommon, due to the limited quantity they produced, compared to their greater production of transfer printed tiles. Not wanting to split up this collection of beautifully "stressed" antique hearth tiles, which, presented together, would make such a gorgeous display, we are providing them in a single lot. These tiles should be considered for decorative purposes in projects where they would be subject to a more rigorous environment than one might subject more perfect antique tiles. Their "rustic" and "ancient" feel, would lend them well to exterior installations in outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, fire pits, garden hardscapes, retaining walls, BBQ surrounds, and the like. These tiles would be perfect for use in just about any old world decor effort and make a distinct impression of age and long history, not possible to achieve without the actual historical wear these tiles so wonderfully display. Condition: Well Used & Restored. These tiles were found in an old manor in Northern England, whose historic grandeur had vanished to the point where it was being totally restored. The new owners decided to remove the original fireplace surrounds, which were quite worn and dirty. We recovered these tiles, hoping our efforts to restore them would result in saving some of their original beauty. Covered in paint, soot, and mortar, these tiles were virtually unrecognizable as Minton majolica tiles and appeared utterly worthless. However, after doing our best to clean them up and to repair two of the tiles, which had been broken, we believe our efforts to be rewarded by their recaptured beauty.
