Pre-Columbian Jalisco Large Warrior Figure (Rare Size)Great Provenance W/COA - $2,300 - (Seaside, CA)
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Shaft Tomb Culture, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Up for sale is this huge, bichrome red-brown and cream pottery Jalisco standing warrior figure, gripping a very large and intimidating arrow pointed spear with both hands (and nicely modeled fingers), boldly presenting it in front of his person. This fierce warrior is dressed for battle, wearing a crested helmet and barrel shaped armor. His determined visage is finely delineated with coffee bean-shaped bulging eyes, a long protruding nose, and pursed lips indicating his serious demeanor. Lastly notice his gigantic feet; these serve to emphasize the fact that this gent is definitely standing his ground, both literally and figuratively. This figure stood guard in a shaft tomb, most likely placed so that it was facing outward around the perimeter of the tomb. A browny, militant protector with serious attitude from the ancients of West Mexico. One of the largest and nicest examples I have seen. Comes with original COA from gallery. Size: 15.5” H x 8.25” W x 8.375” L Condition: Lower portion of spear reattached (as is typically the case with such figures). Scattered mineral and surface deposits. Provenance: • Ex. Rafael Mosses collection, Colorado, 1950’s.• Ex. Ron Messick Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico, acquired in 1994.• Private California collection. **NO INTERNATIONAL SALES**US SHIPPING ONLY**
