A Sheffield Plate soup tureen of classic form with gadroon and shell borders, Matthew Boulton c.1790 Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) had a long and illustrious career, which is well documented on the internet. Boulton had a varied career and his involvement in silversmithing did not begin until 1762 in a partnership with John Fothergill, which lasted till 1782. The tureen is in good condition, considering its age and use. There is a coat-of-arms and a crest, both pictured. Marked with Boulton/s star burst logo under the lid.
