All the details carved into the rails are simple beautiful lines. These chairs are likely 19th century and created during the reign of Louis Philippe, hence the simplicity of the details and lovely curves. Yet, in these chairs, this style is blended with the Louis XV style which had a resurgence in popularity during the reign of Louis Philippe. The marriage of these two styles in these chairs is quite beautiful. The original padding remains in the arm tufts and is quite delicate. The lining fabric is also original. In our opinion it is optional to reupholster since the shabbiness is so charming on these chairs, however it is up to you! The chairs would look lovely with some period appropriate fabric as well. Each chair weighs 23.6lbs each and is 16" from the ground to the seat. Please take these measurements into consideration when matching the chairs to a table or when determining desired seating height.
