Confederate Muster Roll - 25th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Co. F. - 1863. - $400 - (Jewett, OH)
21st South Carolina Volunteer Infantry - CSA of Company F. and has near a full company for this period of war. These rolls were gathered up after the war by the Federal Government and are housed in the National Archives - so the only ones that survived were those taken as souvenirs and carried home after the war by soldiers. These are rare and this is the only one I have seen in over twenty years of a South Carolina Unit. The period for this roll was 30 April till June 30, 1863. Capt. J.A.W. Thomas was the company commander and Colonel R.F. Graham was the regimental commander. There is (1) Capt. (3) Lieutenants (5) Sgts. (4) Corporals and 72 privates in this company. Condition 6"x 4" hole in center of roll - only a minor amount of information in remarks lost from this. Good bright script and paper is still supple and able to be handled - this is what is known as rag paper and it's tough. Pay section is filled out with actual signatures of soldiers. Unit is unusual as it fought in both theaters of the conflict. Hagood's Brigade - Hoke's Division fought with Lee at Cold Harbor and Petersburg Siege. Smoke free home.
