Antique Victorian dual use pendant brooch in original fitted box. Silver over gold, set with diamonds. Made in England. Circa 1840-60. This brooch/pendant was independantly appraised for $12500.- Measurements: approximately 2 1/8inches long. Weighs 16.3 grams. Central diamond measures .80ct VS in clarity and H in color. Another 128 diamonds weighing 2.20ct. Versatile pendant brooch pin. In the form of a flower - a large open-hearted delicately petalled bloom with a large central diamond. The petals are all set with old diamonds, each one beautifully fitted and of clear dimentions and sparkly brightness. Scrolling stem and foliage seem to float in mid air. Like most Victorian jewelry, the diamonds are set in silver to show them off to better effect. The back is gold to protect the clothes and skin of the wearer from tarnishing. The beautifully made flower can be worn either as a brooch or a pendant. There is a large bale for wearing as a pendant. It can be hung from a chain or a ribbon, which was the custom during the Victorian era. There is a screw-on-off attachment that allows the flower to be worn as a brooch/pin. Works easily and well. The brooch/pendant comes in a fitted box, which we believe is the original box. Leather outside, inside silk and velvet. The name of the manufacturer/retailer has faded. The box can not be properly closed, but is a nice feature nevertheless. (see pictures). Marks: none, as is to be expected on an item of this age. Gold was acid tested as 14k.
