Vintage? Alpine Import & Export Inc. Wooden Violin Shaped Shelf / Wall Clock - $60 - (St. Louis, MO)
This rare clock measures approx. 29-5/8" tall x 13-1/8" wide x 5-3/8" deep and was crafted to resemble a specially made 1885 Seth Thomas clock which was similar in size and appearance. From limited research it was found that the original movement was a key wound mechanical but at some point replaced with a battery operated quartz movement to utilize what appears to be the original pendulum. It was an interesting estate sale find and had what I assume is the paper identifying the manufacturer / importer taped to the back of the case, which was carefully removed for safe keeping - with the clock ( 8th photo ). The quartz movement, powered by a "AA" battery ( not included ), moves the pendulum and keeps accurate time. The instrument neck portion is held in place with a friction fit to ease cleaning / shipping. This elegant clock displays well overall but does include use wear, nicks, scratches and expected age related finish stress. View all photos as part of the description.
