This is a letter written and signed by General John A. Logan on January 29, 1881. At that time he was a U.S. Congressman from Illinois. He gave his regrets to Thomas H. Taylor that he could not attend a meeting that was to take place in February of 1881. This letter has been in a collection for some years. Someone had written "From Senator Gen. John A. Logan" at top and "Gen. Logan writes from" also at the top, the letter is written and signed by John A. Logan. Letter measures 8" x 5". Also included is a CDV of Logan in Military Uniform. The CDV has a stain in the lower right corner and has foxing dots and handing stains around the photo. This letter was collected by W. W. Davis A.M. who was a newspaper correspondent and lecturer from Sterling, Illinois. It is Guaranteed to be Authentic. This is still a nice combination of items of a great General who was one of the founders of the Grand Army Of The Republic (GAR) and who began the observance of Memorial Day.
