The Phoenix Egg is inspired by Greek Mythology, which tells of a bird of beauty reborn from the flames of destruction, thus becoming a symbol of hope, immortality and spiritual rebirth. The story, hand painted on fine English bone china, is depicted through four panels consisting of anxiety, tranquillity, hope and fulfilment. The Egg opens to reveal the sterling silver phoenix, set with sapphire eyes, rising defiantly from the vermeil flames. Edition of: 500 Worldwide Materials: Porcelain, sterling silver and sapphire. Prior to 1985, Mr Fabergé worked on individual commissions (many of which are featured in his book Theo Fabergé and the St.Petersburg Collection.) During this period, he was elected Freeman of the City of London, a Prizeman of the Worshipful Company of Turners. He also became an honorary Liveryman. There are approximately 60 Eggs in the Collection, of which approximately 20 are completely sold out. All of his creations are handpainted in enamel with 23/24-carat gold. Egg comes with a personally signed and autographed Certificate from Theo Faberge. We met him and his daughter in 1995. As you can see from the photos the exterior carton is in fair shape do to attic storage. The egg is in excellent condition.
