5 Inch Haiti Folk Art Doll - $6 - (Tennille, GA)
This is possibly a Kimport doll from my late mother’s collection. It is identified as made in Haiti, and as she did on a number of others, my mother stitched the doll inside a plastic bag. It is likely from 1980 or before. The doll stands on a section of tree limb which was sawn. To an extent in the 1960s, some in the 1970s and more around 1980, particularly from Kimport, my late mother collected a large selection of then contemporary international dolls. Some of these are folk art from the region they depict; others pander to stereotypes and were made elsewhere. When there is clear evidence of the origin of the doll, I will state so in the description. My mother often stitched these dolls in plastic, and often she enclosed or attached the source for the doll and any description available when buying the doll. I will attempt to include a photo legibly showing any labels or descriptions I find.
