AN ORIGINAL WELSH DRESSER MADE BY WILLIAM WILLIAMS of CIL-Y-CWM, CIRCA,1780-1820 - $9,450 - (Landrum, SC)

AN ORIGINAL WELSH OAK DRESSER WAS MADE BY WILLIAM WILLIAMS of CIL-Y-CWM, CARMARTHENSHIRE, WALES, CIRCA - 1780 - 1820This dresser has an open-backed rack with 3 shelves and a central support for mainstay stability - it has 5 drawers all with the original brass fittings, one which has a lock, but unfortunately no key - the dresser is supported by four elegantly turned front legs, which supports a pot-board base - on the rear of the pot-board is groove that runs the width of the dresser; this is for displaying large plates - on the top of the dresser is a small raised shelf (1 1/2" high & 3 1/2 " deep) this also has a groove running the full length for displaying very small plates. The polished oak, originally with beeswax, has a lovely patina. This Cil-y-cwm dresser has appendages that are unique and take the form of ears (the Welsh for ears is clustiau).Cil-y-cwm is very much sheep country where the sheep from different farms are identified by earmarks. When we moved from Wales in 2003 (we lived 3 miles north of the village of Cil-y-cwm in a village called Rhandirmwyn) to South Carolina we brought our Welsh Dresser with us. The last picture shows this dresser in our farm house in Wales. The second picture from last shows one of the appendages.NONE OF THE ITEMS DISPLAYED ON THIS DRESSER ARE INCLUDED IN SALE Approx. measurements: H 80" W 72" D 17" PLEASE NOTE - Local pick-up only - we live in Landrum, South Carolina - 29356
