Antique Bobbin Lace, Handmade in India, 1911-1920, Extra Wide, 2 yds. 17 inches - $12 - (Three Rivers, CA)

For Sale is 2 yards 17 inches of beautiful ivory color antique hand made bobbin lace edge. It is 4 1/2" wide. My grandparents lived in Tavoy, lower Burma from 1911-1920. My grandmother told the story of an orphanage in Mulagamudu (also spelled Mulagamoodu) at the southern tip of India where Catholic Sisters from Belgium had taught the women and orphanage children lace making, and they were well known for their skills. My grandmother bought lots of their lace. I found a few scraps of paper with prices in Brittish pounds and the name Mulagamudu (in my grandmother's writing) in a huge bag of lace edging, stored in a cedar trunk for decades. I did some research and I found out that the story was true about the lace making skills of the women of Mulagamudu. I have no doubt that the lace I am selling was handmade there between 1911 and 1920. Lace sold as is. See photographs.
