Outstanding Antique Meissen Porcelain Hand Painted Rococo Revival Portraits & Flowers Platter Serving Tray Meat Dish 17” x 12 ½” x 2” h, c. 1852-1860. Rounded & indented edge oval deep dish shape. Beautifully hand painted botanical quarters on pink ground alternating with romantic couples’ portraits on white ground in the eighteenth century style then under revival. (This is also at the beginning of the era when the inferior second & third pastes had been abandoned & production returned to the first paste body). By hand gilt foliated scroll borders. Blue under-glaze crossed swords with pommels mark of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Meissen in use from c. 1814-60. Rontgen mark 1557 is characteristic, “ca. 1814-ca. 1860”. The mark has two incised lines through the upper blades. Since two lines through the mark was not used as a quality indicator until 1852 (one line through was used since before 1764 to indicate white ware sold undecorated) the date of manufacture can be well narrowed to c. 1852- 1860.
