Vintage set of 4 Linen Hand Woven Japanese PlacematsUnusedTyped note included in box that reads: "Sapporo Teori (hand-woven fabrics) Ryuhei Matsuzaki established a tapestry factory in Sapporo in 1899. Ryuheu's son Sometaka succeeded the business and has developed, together with grandson Koichi, a new technique of knitting to make the product as local industrial art. Sapporo Teori uses Hokkaido's sheep wool or flax. Its designs are inspired by the climate and life of Hokkaido. The Emperor and the Empress have honored both Sometaka and Koishi Matsuzaki by purchasing their works." Box shows wear, and one placemat has spot on edge that must have occurred in storage. Placemats measure approx. 18" x 12 1/2" each. Please see photos.
