1803 Small 8 Draped Bust Silver Half Dime SLABBED PCGS Extremely Rare Variety - $2,695 - (Corvallis, OR)
Normal 0 1803 Small 8 Half Dime, LM-1. A very rare variety in any grade. The PCGS website estimates approx. two dozen known and their current Pop Report shows just 15 examples certified. This is a stunningly original coin from the earliest years of the U. S. Mint. Crusty unmolested surfaces, well struck with no areas of striking weakness (the mushy area at "S O" on the Reverse is directly opposite the large cud on the Obverse) and sharp crisp details for such a small coin. Later Obverse die state; a chip or "cud" attaching Liberty's bust to the rim. A small square punch mark at top is original to the period. Additionally, we have noticed that PCGS tends to "downgrade" a coin by approx. one grade level when certifying a Details Grade coin - in our opinion this coin displays the overall details of an Extremely Fine example.
