Navajo Eye-Dazzler Blanket/Rug Circa 1870-1890Handspun vegetal/natural dyed Angora goat and sheep's wool. Measures 58" X 92" Circa 1870-1890 (possibly earlier) Shown are close-up shots of the corners, center yarn transitions, and border on ends and sides. Shown at various museums and exhibitions over the years. It’s an unusual eye dazzler. The center chevron pattern photosshow both front and back sides of the rug as well as all four corners. I can take additional photos if desired but I think these depict it from as many angles as possible. Colors:Red, orange, yellow are vegetal dyes; white and black are natural. Yarn is handspun wool. Ply is not indicated on any appraisals or museum listings. It appears to be four ply yarn. Wool has been carded as angora goat with sheep's wool warp and weft. Measures 92 X 58". the weaver transitioned the chevron pattern down center length.Originally appraised and professionally mended (very small area) at Packard's in Santa Fe in 1980. Has been in my husband's family for over 100 years. I know nothing more about the blanket/rug other than what is stated here and in our family paperwork. If you would like to see additional photos, please advise. Carefully maintained in a smoke free environment.
