This is a genuine original Italian silver-decorated rapier. circa 1575 The weapon has a silver and brass wire wrapped grip with iron Turks heads It appears that this rapier has never been taken apart. There are scattered patches of medium pitting to cleaned blade There is heavy old dense crusty patina to the guard with a small amount of relatively new rust. The rapier would benefit from careful cleaning. The blade has a central fuller. The hilt has never been cleaned. The rapier measures 52 inches total length with a 44-inch original blade with maker's mark on the ricasso. This is a very nice, genuine decorated sword.
