Authentic 3 strand Niihau Shell lei Made In Niihau - $4,750 - (Hilo, HI)
This is a vintage Niihau shell lei composed of three (3) strands of pure white momi (Euplica varians) shells, some with red tips (momi ke’o ke’o waha ‘ula’ula). The shells measure from approximately ¼ to 3/8 inches long. The lei is strung in the pikakestyle. The shells measure an average of approximately ¼ inches long. The lei measures 37 inches long. The lei is joined by a slightly light cream-colored bumpy cowry (Cypraea granulata) shell (poleholeho apu’upu’u), measuring approximately 1 inch long, with one (1) round white “puka” (Conus) shell on either side. The laikishells average pure white (ke’ole’o) in color, with high luster. This item consists of 100% Niihau shells, and was made in Hawaii. The necklace has been professionally appraised by a graduate gemologist, G.IA. – accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers. Refer to appraisal pictures. I have blacked out the area in a couple pictures because my address is listed there. I am selling this lei for $4,750 which is below the appraised value of $5,000. This item was made in Hawaii, and is at least 80% Niihau shell. The actual percentage of Niihau shell in this item is 100%.
