Exceptional Antique Philippine Sword Visayan Sabre Not Moro - $850 - (Dresden, ME)
This is a rare Filipino sword that was probably carried by some one of importance in the Spanish government c. 1860-90. The sword is 23.75” in length with a finely forged, razor sharp, 18” (46cm) blade. The robust, thick blade is 5/8” at the base. It is typical of a Visayan sword, with the beveled edge flat on one side and chiseled on the other. The handle is very finely carved domestic bull horn, with a figure of an upturned face. There are little holes that are filled with a white pigmentation on the top and both sides of the handle. The guard is also made of bull horn. There is a shield on one side of the guard. The scabbard is wood and appears to be original to the sword. The sword is in excellent condition with only a tiny hairline crack of the horn handle. Some of the pigmentation is missing. The scabbard is missing some rattan and has a couple of cracks. A fine example! Exceptional Antique Philippine Sword Visayan Sabre Not Moro Track Page Views WithAuctiva's FREE Counter
