1875 $5 PCGS AU53 CAC - $240,000 - (Norfolk, VA)

The rarest of all five liberties and arguably the finest in existence. We have prior experience with this great coin. We first purchased it in 2012 and placed it shortly thereafter. With only 9 known and likely a tad rarer then its big cousin the 1875 ten liberty. This is the only example that has qualified for CAC status and with good reason. A handsome well struck coin with that all important original color that so many rare gold coins lack. There are two coins graded numerically higher and a trip to Coinfacts at PCGS.com will prove the superior nature of this coin. As you click through the image of the 58 and 55, you will notice both are extremely rough and off color. When you get to this one the color and surfaces are completely different. If you are building a world class 5 lib set, and want a coin to add value to all your other coins do not miss this opportunity. The only recent public sale is an NGC AU55 non CAC sold in 2014 for 211,500. The PCGS holder with CAC certification and original color of this coin will prove to be a very important factor when it comes time to resell or auction this very special rarity.
