ANTIQUE FRENCH EMPIRE PERIOD PATINATED BRONZE & ORMOLU TABLE CLOCK c.1820 - $1,450 - (Wilmington, NC)
Wonderful French Empire Period Patinated Bronze & Ormolu Table/Mantle Clock.The case with it's delicate Neo-Classical decoration is in great condition having been well cared for during it's lifetime.The clock retains it's original 8 day drum movement which strikes the hours and halves on a bell by means of count wheel striking. It has recoil anchor escapement and a really nice correct replaced custom made pendulum hung by silk thread suspension. An unusual feature of the clock is the oval aperture for viewing the pendulum.The blued steel Breguet hands are correct replacements.The dial has intricate decoration in it's center and a silvered chapter ring. There is wear to the silvering on the chapter ring and the Roman numerals and minute markers have been poorly repainted but are so small as to not distract from the beauty of the clock. The signature of the original clockmaker is visible near the six o'clock position of the chapter ring. It's hard to make out but the town name is Toulouse.The movement hasn't been cleaned in a few years but we oiled it and it's running correctly and keeping beautiful time. The clock comes with a correctly fitting modern key. It's ready to wind up and enjoy. This clock is about 200 years old and has extremely minor signs of wear that one would expect in a well taken care of antique clock, I consider this clock to be in excellent condition.
