"Best in the House", Canal St., New Orleans" is an original oil painting by Tim Lauer. It is a 24" x 30", primed stretched canvas on standard sized stretcher bars, unframed and signed 'Lauer' lower right corner and signed on the back. About the painting: For those who remember Canal St. before gigantic malls and supermarkets, there was downtown. Downtown was where all one's shopping was done, movie houses and, of course, Bourbon St. and the French Quarter. Based on the artist's own photos from the late 70s and 80s this lighted billboard is no longer there, I'm sure. Don't know if the Joy Theater movie house is still there. Canal St. has lost it's vibrancy and color in a world of high tech and a great lost of personal customer service that was always one on one and done with respect and courtesy. I can remember walking down Canal St. in front of Maison Blanche and D.H. Holmes and the fragrance of perfume as you near the opened front doors, intoxicating and inviting. Those days are gone now.
