Beautiful, rare, and original 1/4 repeating French carriage clock in a lovely polished and lacquered brass case. The fired enamel dial features delicate flowers in the dial center and Roman numerals. The name of the retailer Shreve, Crump, & Low, Boston is inked on the dial. The signature is slightly worn but still quite legible. Shreve, Crump, & Low were highly respected jewelers in Boston selling the highest quality goods. The clock is in a "Corniche" case which has been carefully polished and lacquered to preserve it. The glass panels are all bevelled. The movement is striking, repeating, and running correctly. It is keeping beautiful time. We have oiled and tested the movement. It looks to have been cleaned in the last few years. The clock retains its original 8 day movement and original silvered platform lever escapement of the finest quality. The clock has "Petite Sonnerie" striking and full quarter repeat on demand by pressing the button top of the case. The initials G.H. within a circle are stamped inside the front plate of the movement. This would be the stamp of the maker of the clock who supplied it to Shreve, Crump, & Low. The clock comes with a correctly fitting modern key. It's ready to wind up and enjoy. This clock is about 115 years old and has extremely minor signs of wear that one would expect in a well taken care of antique clock, I consider this clock to be in excellent condition.
