For sale is an 1852-O Seated Quarter Graded as Uncirculated Details by PCGS. The New Orleans Mint struck a rather small number of quarters in 1852 (96,000 coins), a time when the price of silver rose considerably relative to gold. That lead to widespread hoarding, but it also meant the O-mint was spending more on the production of silver coins than the coins were actually worth. The 1852-O is scarce in all grades and extremely rare with Uncirculated details. Silvery-gray surfaces have been slightly muted by cleaning. Sharpness is typical for the facility, but the motifs fail to show any signs of friction.
