Frame: Framed / plastic sleeve Subject: Pele and Namakaokahai This work involves Pele, the goddess of the volcano, and her older sister Namakaokahai. These two fought many battles before Pele found relative peace in her home at Halema'uma'u. The print back has some information as shown in the photos. The print is in a plastic sleeve and temporarily placed in the frame shown for protection and storage. I'm happy to ship the print alone, without the frame also, if you desire, and it will save quite a bit on the shipping cost. It had an original old price tag of $1500. Here is some of the information I found on the artist: Horatio Nelson Poole (1885-1947) In 1914, Poole moved to Hawaii, where his art was greatly influenced by the Hawaiian landscape, people and culture. He was an artist in 1917-18 for the Honolulu Advertiser. During this time, Poole worked on developing his skills as an etcher. He earned money designing bookplates for many famous collections. By 1918, Poole was one of the most prominent members of the Hawaiian Society of Artists. His fame reached beyond Hawaii and he was elected a member of the California Society of Etchers where he served as president for three years. In 1921, he left Hawaii to relocate to San Francisco, California where he joined the faculty of the California School of Fine Arts. He gave lectures on the art of etching, painted in his Montgomery Street studio, created murals, had one-man shows at the Galerie Beaux-Arts and continued to extend his influence on California art through his lectures at Berkeley and the California School of Fine Arts.
