Late Roman Pottery Oil Lamp, Levant, 400-450 ADCULTURE/REGION OF ORIGIN: Late Roman Syria or Palestine DATE: 400 - 450 AD DIMENSIONS: 9.9 cm (3.89 in.) longDESCRIPTION: The Late Roman period pottery oil lamp is formed of pink clay with possible remains of a reddish slip on the surface, and is piriform in shape with a slightly elongated handle. It features a repeating chevron decoration on the shoulders and quadrangular geometric decoration at the center of the flat oval base. It is intact but for some minor surface flaking.
