Vintage and Rare! 1949 Smokey Bear Paper Poster James Hansen Artwork “Smokey Says – Crush it, Break It, Drown it, Use It” “Remember – Only you can PREVENT FOREST FIRES” DESCRIPTION: Vintage paper Smokey Bear poster from 1949. This poster is by the artist James Hansen, who’s printed signature is in the lower right corner. This is an original poster print that is 67 years old and definitely not a reproduction. Size is 18 - 1/4" x 12 -7/8". Number on the left bottom is 50-CFFP-7C. Number in the center on the bottom is U.S. Government Printing Office: 1949-O-856566. Also on bottom of poster it says: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, and State Forest Service. I did check used because it's not brand new but vintage, however it has never been tacked to a bulletin board. CONDITION: VERY GOOD. This poster has been rolled up in a cardboard tube and has some curling. Top of poster right corner has a minor brownish discolor. The lower left under Forest Service has a very minor paper tear. The front bottom corner left side has a minor paper fold. Center bottom is a minor paper tear, The tears and folds would barely show in a frame and could be repairable. Back of poster has some minor light brownish staining around the edges . These condition issues are from storage as this is an unused poster. No pin holes, or fading of colors. The colors are nice and bright. I encourage you to look at the pictures carefully as I am not an expert at grading posters. Take a good look at the pictures to help you assess condition.
