VINTAGE (C1940) SOUTHERN STYLE CHEYENNE DRESS - $1,400 - (Lawrence, KS)

This buckskin beaded dance dress (Southern Style) was purchased from a student (Cheyenne) at Haskell Indian Junior College (now Haskell Indian Nations University) in the early 1970"s. The dress originally belonged to and was made by the student's mother and she estimated it was made in the early 1940"s. The dress is hand sewn and finely beaded in blue, yellow, orange, and red seed beads. The blue, orange, red and yellow ribbons on the front are attached with metal hat badge shields from the United States Military Academy at West Point. The yoke tabs are decorated with brass buttons with a blue glass insert. The skirt tabs (2 on each side) are decorated with tin cone drops.. The skirt has fringe on the sides as well as the bottom. This is a classic souther style Cheyenne dance dress. The condition of the dress, given its age and use, is excellent. There are no missing beads apparent. The is some light staining at the waist, likely from a belt being worn, and at the front of the near opening. There is a small tear in the seam at the waist (about 2 inches). All of the hand cut buckskin sleeve fringe is intact. I would guess the the size of the dress is a 112 or 124 and the following are the actual physical measurements.1. Neak opening is 12 inches across.2. Sleeve length is about 17 inches with traditional tabs in the front and back at the armpit.3.Waist is 18 inches across.4. Dress overall length is 52 inches.5.The sleeve fringes are 38 inches long. Please consider the photographs to be a part of the description and I will try to answer any question you might have. If you are not satisfied with your purchase you can return the dress in it shipped condition at your expense.
