ANTIQUE GOLD HORSE WATCH FOB 1800'S 14KT/CARNELIAN WAX SEAL FOR W.C. BEE OF SC - $6,000 - (Charleston, SC)

Hand made fob- standing solid gold horse. Carnelian tablet rectangular in shape meaures 2.50cm long by 1.70cm wide by 4.80mm deep. Fob measures 2.80cm in length by 2.30cm in width. Weighs 12.70 grams. Carnelian engraved with the "Bee" family crest (soldier with three bee designs).Initials-WCB for William Cattell Bee. . William C. Bee was grandson of Thomas Bee, Lt.Governor of SC. Photo Copy of miniature of WCB in photos posted which is in Gibbes Art Museum in Charleston. In 1790 Thomas Bee was appointed by George Washington to be a Judge in the U.S. District Court of South Carolina until his death in 1812. ??Wikitree.com information on Thomas Bee and lineage.?? WCB 1809-1881. At age 11, he went to work to support his mother and sisters, after the death of his father. He was successful in the cotton and rice business. He owned three ships. He was a blockade runner during the Civil War in Charleston, SC .(William C.Bee & Co. established in 1852) His first cousin , Barnard E. Bee, Jr., was best remembered for inspiring "Stonewall" to Brig.General Thomas Jackson. WCB'S 2 sons were both wounded in the War. One died in Virginia. The other died in hospital in DC. After the Civil War, he went into the phosphate business in Charleston. He was on the board of The Orphan House in Charleston until he died, where he met Christopher Memminger who as a child, had lived there. Memminger started the SC public school system. He and Memminger went into the phosphate business together. He built 122 Tradd Street in Charleston SC in 1835 @ age 26. House is registered with Historic Charleston Foundation. His miniature and those of his two sons are displayed in The Gibbes Art Museum in Charleston. He owned many other homes in Charleston. Photo of plaque on his house in photos.
