Vintage Mattel SuperStar Airplane - Unused, Complete, RARE 1972 - $350 - (Shallowater, TX)
Ultra cool and EXTREMELY rare SuperStar "Electric Plane with a Brain" from Mattel, 1972. It is 100% complete including stickers, instructions and all paperwork. I actually removed the contents from the box for the first time since they were placed there 45 years ago just today to check condition and take pictures for this listing. There are two issues I noted when checking the contents: 1. The rechargeable batteries on the back of the engine have leaked and would need to be replaced; and 2. The wires from the electrical harness were laid across the horizontal stabilizer and have melted through in one place. I did not remove the wire, but that could easily be done and repairing the damage would be fairly simple. Pictures of both issues are included in this listing. The plane itself has a 26 inch wingspan when assembled and uses one of four "flight plan" disks for a predetermined flight path, or it can be flown free-flight or using a tether line. It charges in 3 minutes with a standard 6 volt lantern battery. I had one of these when I was a kid and it was one of the best toys ever. Finding one in any condition is rare, but to find a boxed, unused example is unheard-of. The box itself is in overall great condition with two small areas where it looks as if price tags were removed using a sharp knife that only took off the top litho layer of cardboard. Colors are vibrant and the box and all internal packaging is sturdy. Please ask any questions you may have and I'll do my best to answer them. Thanks for looking!
