Rare Beer Stein Mug w/ Lithopane Man & Woman Gerold Porzellan Collector Estate - $27 - (King of Prussia, PA)
Rare opportunity to purchase authentic German beer steins that are from an estate of a long term collector. The collector from Eastern Pennsylvania was a contemporary of and also from the same area as a renown collector William C. Schwartz from Lancaster (also Eastern PA). Among the steins that the collector had, there were two articles one on steins and one on Schwartz from 1978 local paper. At that time, according to the article, Schwartz, in his 70s, had over 3,300 different steins. See the photo before last. Likely some of the steins that the collector owned were purchased or bartered from Schwartz or his estate. A quote from the seller (he is in his seventies) – “These are been given to me by my aunt awhile ago. She has been to Europe numerous times in the 70s and started collecting these. Most are 40+ years old. She died a few year back and I am no longer interested in displaying them.” They come in various shapes and sizes. Very good vintage condition (40+ year old). I see occasional very minor loss of paint. I see no chips or cracks. Approx 5 1/2” tall. Weight 15oz. It appears that there is a lithopane inside, on the base of the stein. I made several photos so you can judge what is depicted there. To me it looks like a man wearing hat and a woman wearing a dress and some other things. You may see something different. Nothing else is included.
