Long before copying machines and photo makers, if a relative passed and family members wanted copies of photographs, they would take the original image to a photographer and photographers would take a photo of the photo. You can clearly see the image resembles an earlier daguerreotype photo and the hair style and dress of the women is from the 1850s. This image clarity is excellent and the photo displays beautifully Ca. 1860s. Tintype Size: 2 3/4" x 4 1/8" The chart below shows tintype plate sizes. The majority of the tintype photographs you find will not match any of the sizes below. Photographers and clients would crudely trim images to fit into albums or frames.
