CHARLES DICKENS. Important autograph note in French signed by Charles Dickens to Emile de Girardin. Girardin was a well-known French journalist, publicist and politician who held an infamous banquet in honor of Dickens during his stay in Paris between 1855 to 1856. Dickens sent this note to Girardin confirming the date of the banquet: “So Monday my dear Mr. Girardin, with the most pleasure, CD, Champs-Elysees, 7 April 1856”. Shortly thereafter, Dickens wrote and published A Tale of Two Cities, set in London and Paris, in 1859. AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED BY CHARLES DICKENS CONFIRMING THE DATE OF AN INFAMOUS BANQUET HELD IN HIS HONOR IN PARIS, SHORTLY THEREAFTER DICKENS WROTE AND PUBLISHED A TALE OF TWO CITIES SET IN LONDON AND PARIS The note is one page, measures 8” by 5.25”, is in fine condition with only Dickens name written to the top left from a previous dealer, and has been authenticated by and is accompanied with documentation from Dreweatts and Bloomsbury Auctions, the leading autograph auction house in Europe.
