Lovely triptych of beauties viewing a Japanese garden. This exquisite triptych is from our rare print collection. It is a masterwork by Hashimoto Chikanobu (Japanese, 1838-1912), one of the greatest ukiyo-e artists of the Meiji era (1868-1912). It is his lovely fall scene Viewing Japanese Maples. As a youth Chikanobu studied under both Kuniyoshi and Kunichika. Though he designed many warrior and kabuki prints, he is perhaps best known for his marvelous bijin-ga, or beauty portraits, such as those in this wonderful triptych. Chikanobu painted this masterwork ca. 1895. Lovely triptych of five beauties enjoying the fall colors beside a peaceful garden pond. On the right, in the background, is a rushing waterfall. On the left is a teahouse. The young ladies are all dressed in elaborately pattered kimonos. A beautiful print with the soft colors of the landscape contrasting nicely with the brighter colors and patterns of the sumptuous kimono. There is fine embossing on the white kimono collars and sleeves. Would be beautiful displayed on your home of office wall. We are very fortunate to be able to offer this magnificent triptych.
