C. 1680 Oak Long Case Clock - $22,000 - (Calgary, AB)

This is a very original and super rare 1680s oak long case married to a very fine 1740s 10” brass 30-hr mechanism and dial by William Lawerance of ThamesThe overall presentation is very elegant and simple as clocks were at this time. The Case It features the original lift up hood with barley twist columns and old red silk sound fret. The door shows proper shrinkage for a clock this age with the lock being long ago lost. The slim 10 1/2” waist has a glass lenticle with a crack. The bun feet appear original to the case despite the age.Overall the case is tight as a drum with no loose wood or major restoration required(in my opinion) The Mechanism This is a Circa 1740 30 HR movement that features a alarm function with pulley and separate small weight. The main weight and pendulum appear to be original to this clock. The mechanism functions perfectly with no problems or issues. The alarm functions properly as well. The Dial The 10” brass dial is a very attractive period layout with one original hand and a separate small alarm set disk. The dial is signed Wm. Lawerance Thames. Dimensions Clock measures 77” tall with 17” wide hood and 10 1/2” waist. The base is 13” wide with the clocks width being a slim 7” Yes this is a marriage. But what a marriage! Mechanism and dial fit the case like they were made for each other. Yes it’s a 30HR clock but with a solid beautiful dial and functioning alarm. The clock looks very proper for a early clock without paying 100k + Bottom line is when did you last see a longcase this old for sale on e-bay? Don’t miss a chance to own this special clock. Happy bidding!
