Stampless Phila 1836 Boston Paul Revere son missionary to Singapore Mary Revere - $65 - (Edwards, CA)

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 A letter of mostly family matters, from the wife of Paul Revere’s son, Joseph Warren Revere, to him in Boston. Tape repairs. From her letter of April 27th 1836 “I have seen the missionarys (sic) again that are going to Singapore & they tell me they are to sail from Boston in a vessel of Mr. Richardson’s in June which will give us an opportunity of sending anything we choose.” There is quite a bit of information in that single sentence. I suspect one could determine which Protestant missionaries sailed from Boston to Singapore on a ship owned by Mr. Richardson in June of 1836. There is reference of Captain Richardson permitting free passage to missionaries on his ship “Brooklyn” in 1836, in the proceedings of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church, Philadelphia.
