Chart Antique Navigation North Atlantic Ocean Southern Sheet Used for Navigation - $129 - (Jonesport, ME)
Item up for your consideration is an Antique Navigation Chart for the North Atlantic. This chart was used for actual navigation as there are Track Lines, Daily Sighting Positions, Weather Notations and other markings as would come with open ocean navigation. One Track line starts at the Azores and ends in the Gulf of Maine over a month after starting. The Chart was printed in either 1946 or 47. The last correction from "notice to mariners" was in April 1946. There are markings in Pencil as well as Green or Blue Pen. We are not sure what type of vessel was used but from the length of the voyages it was likely a sailing vessel. The Chart measures approx. 49 1/2 in. w x 34 in. h.. It is marked as being the "Southern Sheet" for the North Atlantic Charts. It is Chart No. 5244. We got this Chart from an estate auction in Downeast Maine. The Chart was folded when we received it so we will ship it folded. This Chart would make a Wonderful addition to any Nautical Collection and would be a Nice Wall Hanging for any Home, Office, Den or Man Cave. Please note there are shadows that show in the photos. Chart has surface, finish and edge wear. Chart was used for open ocean navigation so has wear consistent with the harsh marine environment. There are stains, rips and tears from use, age and storage. There are water and rust stains. The chart was folded. The chart is weathered and there is slight yellowing of the paper. There are markings on the chart as would be made when used for navigation.
