THIS IS A RARE AND UNUSUAL COLONIAL Recovered from The "Pewter Wreck," sunk in the mid-1500s off Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 1500 ERA SPAIN BRONZE MORTAR & PESTLE INCLUDE CERTIFICATED BY GLOBAL ANTIQUITIES REGISTRY # 875812856 Trade with the New World would have begun in Seville, Spain where cargoes and passengers were registered for the trans-Atlantic crossing. As the vessels sailed southwest to the Caribbean they would off-load their European cargo at one port and take on New World cargo in another.Returning from Havana, Cuba they would sail through the Florida Straits to pick up the Gulf Stream andmake their journey back to Spain. Given this trade route and location of the wreck site it is most likely thisvessel was heading for Santo Domingo, with a cargo of merchandise to be sold in the New World.
